Beach music meets Jazz Fusion

Summer of 1985 - Geoff Tape #4 Side B

This tape has a rare yet classic :25 seconds of silence when maybe a song ended earlier than Bob thought? Bob “Here” improvises then hurries through the previous songs to make up for the lost time.

Commercial – “Some like it hot……one of todays hot new bands - Power Station”

Up next a 5 song beach music set -

I Hate the Beach Boys - The Bobs
Promise Land - Chuck Berry
Fun Fun Fun - The Beach Boys
Splashback! - Jon & The Nightriders
Twistin’ By The Pool - Dire Straits (One of my favorites during the summers in Ocean City)

From beach music to 10 minutes of Jazz fusion ending with The Police and Sting
Blaze - Steve Kuhn
Driven to Tears - The Police

WHFS - Tape 3 side A & B

Here's another tape from probably around 1985 or so. A good solid tape with what seems typical 'HFS from around this time.

So, with some of the Christmas songs included we can pin this down to most likely a couple weeks into December at least.

I took some guesses as who was singing the particular songs since no station breaks were available on the tape. Perhaps Geoff can shed some light on these recordings.
Tape 3 - side A
Somebody help me - The Everly Brothers
Feel a Whole Lot Better when you're Gone - The Byrds
I've been lonely too long - The Rascals
I Can't Stand Up for Falling Down - Elvis Costello & the Attractions
Peace Love and Understanding - Elvis Costello & the Attractions
Christmas at Kmart - Root Boy Slim
Christmas Wrapping - The Waitresses
Dancing in the Dark - Kim Wilde
Hey Now (Girls just Wanna have Fun) - Cyndi Lauper
Brand New Lover
Hey Mae - Shakin Stevens

It's odd no station breaks but maybe there are "pause" breaks and I can't tell.

So, side B has no station breaks either that I can tell - download and be surprised.

Get side (A) here and (B) here

Both tapes are approx. 105MB, 46 minutes and MP3@320kb

Damian singing the blues

Blues Blues Blues.

Included in this post are A and B side of Damian spinning some serious blues. Without station breaks it's tough to know the names of the songs or artist. Some of what's on these tapes are:

The Blind Dog Blues Band from Parkville, MD playing When I'm Gone
Johnny Adams singing Life is a Struggle
John Prine and a whole lot of friends playing I Just Want to be with You
Marcia Ball singing Gator Rhythms

In between the above and after are a whole lotta blues.

Check them both out here and here

Both tapes are approx. 105MB, 45 minutes and MP3@320kb

Live from The Lizard Lounge - A side of Tape 1 -

Just finished the second side (A side) of the 1st of ten tapes from Geoff. Nice tape with three, that's three three song sets from Echo & The Bunnymen, Jane's Addiction and The Smithereens. All this during a Station Renovation Weekend live from The Lizard Lounge. The tape starts with a U2 song and ends with almost two from Public Image Ltd including "Rise".

Scattered within these sets is a Dr. Katherine Cruel M.D. skit along with the first 10 callers get a pass to the Gross National Product's Scandal Tour.

So, can anyone date this tape? One clue, when the DJ was talking about what seemed to be mild blackmail, she talked about sending a tape to America's Funniest Videos rather than posting them online.

The three song sets include: Echo & The Bunnymen's Lips Like Sugar, Bed Bugs and Ballyhoo, Never Stop; Jane's Addiction's Stomp, Jane Says and Ben Caught Steelin'; The Smithereens’ Behind the Wall of Sleep, Yesterdays Girl, Only a Memory.

Get it here

Tape is 104MB, 46 minutes and a MP3@320kb
