Weasel's Frantic Friday March 17th 1989

On April 1st 1989 I moved to Florida and have been here since. The fact that this tape was recorded just two weeks before leaving, I can tell I was gearing up for no WHFS or that type of music in the retirement capital of the U.S.

The tape starts off early in Crazy by Icehouse.

*Lloyd Cole and the Commotions – My Bag *(Not on Tape – Just recapped by Weasel)

Rock Over London with Graham Dee (Early 1987)

Rock Over London with Graham Dee (Early 1987)

This tape starts with Graham leading into another Rock Over London with the show highlights then announcing the first song of the night - "…and with lead guitar from Peter Frampton and a mid song rap with Mickey Rourke, it’s David Bowie”

The Silencers – Painted Moon

Graham Dee music recap

Paul McCartney - Live at Wembley

Punk Rock tape - side b

On Jan. 6th I uploaded only my second recording on this blog, side A of a tape I labeled Punk Rock. Well, I see I never uploaded Side B. If it weren't for having already loaded these on my computer, I wouldn't be posting anything since I'm dismantled my setup and my tapes are all buried upstairs. Now I know why I didn't upload the tape after recording it to the computer. The first 8 minutes had a Baltimore Orioles game plus the song I'll tumble for you and a Pat Benatar tune. I've edited it today and will upload the remaining WHFS part of the tape.

The Jam - David Watts
The Romantics - Got Me where you want me
J. Giles Band - Gonna find me a New Love
The James Montgomery Band - School in' them Dice
Sting - TUTTI FRUTTI

Classic Weasel music recap.

The rest of the tape has no station breaks, not sure if their are tape cuts or not. I'm sure you'll enjoy. There is one DJ that comes on toward the end of the tape and says "Good Morning Lost & Found from the Saints their second album Eternally Yours on Sire Records" - I don't recognize the voice.

1975 live interview with Lowell George & Linda Ronstadt

I've looked online for this and only came upon one site that had the complete interview like this. I believe this was released as a DJ copy from WHFS and not a commercial release. I've had this for a few years now and believe I downloaded it from a P2P site.

If anyone has any more information on this recording, please leave a comment.

Enjoy!

Tape starts off with King Crimson’s Elephant Talk
*Elvis Costello – Pump it Up
*The Comateens– Get off my case
*Godly and Cream – Joeys Camel
King Crimson - Elephant Talk

Janet Recap of songs played
Classic commercial:
Poseurs of Georgetown -34th & M St commercial with a Billy Idol listening party (Yes I misspelled Poseurs on the tape. To hard to fix. =-)

Tape cut
The Zombies - It’s the Time of the Season
Two unknown songs –

Tape cut
- My Heartbeats

Lyrics of another unknown song – UPDATE: 06.30.08 - Thanks to 6for2 to letting providing the information on the above song. It's from the same band that did Da Da Da... Trio and Error. Thanks again. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trio_(band)

A helpful friend oh what a friend
I look at him with thanks
He reaches deep into his coat
What has he in his hand?

Bumpbump
The doorbells rings
And I don’t know
Who outside may be
A high heeled shoe
A naked lady
Does she come to me

Bumpbump
Here they go again
It’s a heartbeat…

A satellite was out of sight
Radioactive though,
Quite alright when it was high
But now it’s very low

If anyone knows the group that sang the Bumpbump song, please leave a comment. Can anyone date this recording? I’m thinking around 1983-84. 06.30.08 - Thanks to 6for2 to letting providing the information on the above song. It's from the same band that did Da Da Da... Trio and Error. Thanks again. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trio_(band)

This tape I’d say wasn’t uploaded after recording it to the computer because of the quality and being all cut up on the second half of the tape. I think it’s worth it for the Billy Idol listening party spot along with the first three songs make a cool set.

Anyone know Tim Deegan from Annapolis? Well, thanks to the Internet – maybe this is Tim Deegan www.livestrong.com/profile/tdeegan. If anyone wants to send him this way I’m sure he’ll get a kick of hearing Weasel play a Party Weekend dedication to him.

It's been a while...

...since my last post. I have been busy plus my tapes are somewhat buried in a room full of, well, lot's of stuff and my USB cassette deck is not connected since moving my computer downstairs. It's funny, everyday I go into my sock drawer, I have to move my somewhat faded WHFS t-shirt out of the way. I don't wear it, so why is it in my sock drawer? I have so much stuff I had no where else to put it. Well, that's not entirely true, but the fact that it's there and I haven't moved it is what's funny.

For this reason, I think of WHFS everyday!

I'm going to move part of the "Why this blog" in this post since I have a feeling this post is going to be here for a while.

...It's named Naplesgc because I didn't quite understand how the blog name worked. I since found out but Naplesgc.blogspot.com is here to stay.

I started this blog to upload some 1980's cassette tapes I have of WHFS, 99.1 on the radio dial, Annapolis, Baltimore and Washington. If you are a fan of the 80's, and I'm not talking the 80's pop alternative, but truly awesome music from Rock-a-Billy, folk, classic oldies, modern alternative, some punk, simply, songs not heard on other radio stations, stay tuned. Be sure to click the link of my online friend wvkayaker for truly awesome rare recordings of WHFS and other music. It may take me a while to upload what I have, but I'll do what I can.

How do I have these tapes? I grew up in Rockville, MD and I'd say listened to WHFS from 1980-1989. In my circle of friends, I was one of the first to listen to alternative music and stayed away from the rap music that was being played loud on many car stereos back in 1983-85. I have these tapes and my records from the day to prove it. (Continue reading in the left column under "Why this blog"...)

I still make it over to another WHFS site, Camarillo Brillo (http://incaroads-wvkayaker.blogspot.com/)and download what looks interesting. Check it out yourself.

I would like to say the two months it took to create this WHFS blog and the interaction via comments with the WHFS fans has made all this worth the time. Long live WHFS - scroll down and check out my recordings and hope you enjoy them as much as I have listening to them over the years. Please leave a comment saying hello.

Hello Janet - Thank you for stopping by

Thanks to a timely link to my WHFS blog posted on the Mobtown Shank site (www.mobtownshank.com) by Scott Huffins (www.atommicbooks.com), we've been honored by Janet Little herself.

The tapes found on this blog have survived 4 moves in 18 years and many long years cooped up in a dark closet, seemingly all but lost. Once found, while making room no doubt for the most recent addition to my odd collection of "anything", I started saving them to my computer; then forgot about them for two years or so. Thanks to Camarillo Brillo (http://incaroads-wvkayaker.blogspot.com/) for giving me the push I needed to start posting what I had.

Now a visit from Janet! What could be better? Well, just the fact that I have helped some re-live fond memories of an era past, an era that held the beginning of many futures - it's satisfaction enough.

After doing an online search, Janet Little has some awesome photography and is duly talented. Check out her site - http://www.janetlittle.com/.

Janet, I am an amateur photographer and in looking at your site, you have moved me. Artistically masterful. Thank you for making a profound impact on my life, again.

Hey, this is Janet! There was a link to the "HFS Nostalgia" blog on the Mobtown Shank and I had to check it out. I'm downloading shows now, this is too funny! I only have a couple of tapes from HFS and I have no idea what kind of shape they're in since I don't have a working cassette player.

Thanks for making this available. I can only hope I'm not too embarrassed by what I sounded like all those years ago! :-D
