DJ Milo's short set

I'm starting to add Windows Media audio clips that play right inside the blog. I've experimented with audio files that streamed but they opened up in their own page. Sorry, no downloads! Press play then go about your online browsing - these files will play in the background.

I may not be adding new blog entries but actually going back through the blog and updating the old threads with the streaming file.

This one is a great short set with DJ Milo along with some great commercials including U2 latest album (War) at just $5.99!

Anyone ever go to DC Space? Never really heard of it. Listen to hear a concert listing. Sounds like a jazz place.

Kemp Mill Records commercial featuring the U2 album, War.

This was the set where Milo talked about REM showing up in the studio after a local concert. I'm not sure if they showed but I don't have the tape. Sure wish I did.

Drive Baby Drive...

I found this gem with the lead-in from Shona Laing. What an impressive
voice...the words Drive Baby Drive have never sounded better together than when she sings this song.

Dave Issing is in for Bob and recaps the last four songs then throws it to commercials.

As always, please leave a comment what you thought of this post and a memory or two.

Saved the best for last!

Attention - false report of last tape found! The Fat Lady has now sung! And the best seemed to have been left for last! What a tape from 102.3; great songs and great DJ music recaps. Tape 1 side A is from late 1982 and includes XTC, Lina Lovich, U2, The Fixx, Garland Jeffreys, Iggy Pop, B-52's, X, The Kinks and English Beat. This is an afternoon drive time set according to the DJ, the time was after 3PM. Tape 1 side A

Crazy to think we are ending this 14 tape set with tape 1; how unconventional can we get? Well, since we are talking WHFS- it's fitting, eh?

Friday - Christmas Eve 1982, just before 5PM. The Roxy Music, The Reindeers, Elvis Costello after hard cut we get Sarah on Saturday - Susie and the Banshees, The Undertones, Jaleeb then a great music recap leads to The English Beat, Psychedelic Furs, and XTC to fade.

Now, closing sentiments please.

Live from The Lizard Lounge - A side of Tape 1 -

Just finished the second side (A side) of the 1st of ten tapes from Geoff. Nice tape with three, that's three three song sets from Echo & The Bunnymen, Jane's Addiction and The Smithereens. All this during a Station Renovation Weekend live from The Lizard Lounge. The tape starts with a U2 song and ends with almost two from Public Image Ltd including "Rise".

Scattered within these sets is a Dr. Katherine Cruel M.D. skit along with the first 10 callers get a pass to the Gross National Product's Scandal Tour.

So, can anyone date this tape? One clue, when the DJ was talking about what seemed to be mild blackmail, she talked about sending a tape to America's Funniest Videos rather than posting them online.

The three song sets include: Echo & The Bunnymen's Lips Like Sugar, Bed Bugs and Ballyhoo, Never Stop; Jane's Addiction's Stomp, Jane Says and Ben Caught Steelin'; The Smithereens’ Behind the Wall of Sleep, Yesterdays Girl, Only a Memory.

Get it here

Tape is 104MB, 46 minutes and a MP3@320kb

Please - if you download, leave a comment and a review of the tape would be great as well. Don't forget to head over to my WHFS great music forums

1987 Thanksgiving Day with Weasel uninterrupted

1987 Thanksgiving Day with Weasel uninterrupted

This tape has almost 13 songs with Royal Court tailing at the end. One of my most complete recordings with four awesome breaks by Weasel. What was I doing recording WHFS on Thanksgiving Day in 1987? Let's see, I was 22 and living at home. I can hear my Mom now "IT'S DINNER TIME, GLENN". Well, I bet she was a bit more polite on T-Day then normal days.
Enjoy!

U2 – Sweetest thing
The Jam - The Bitterest Pill (I Ever Had to Swallow)
Weasel recap
Pete Wiley – It’s sinful
Paul Carrack - Every time you walk into the room
The Smithereens – Strangers when we meet
Metal as Anything - Live it up
The Kane Gang – Motortown
It’s 1:35 on Throbbing Thursday
Weasel playing some Rock & Roll

(It’s those bodacious) BoDeans – Only Love
The Beatles – Every little thing
Squeeze – Tough Love
Elvis Costello – New Amsterdam
More from Weasel
Crowded House - Don't Dream It's Over
99.1 WHFS (gotta hear this music recap!)
Royal Court of China - It's all changed

The original post from 2008 had a download URL. The Megaupload site has been shutdown so I am now streaming the historical and educational material via WMA. This was loaded Nov. 23, 2013

Enjoy and please let me know what you think and leave a comment!

Here’s an awesome recording with Dave Issing in for Bob along with the Concert Calendar.

Wow, the names of some of those bands and the venues they played in. I generally went to the Merrriweather Post Pavillion and the Cap Center but on occasion made it to 9:30 Club and other intimate shows.
